High-Speed Automatic Packaging Film for Snacks: 6 Quality Points Every Buyer Must Check

Snack producers – from biscuit and wafer makers to marshmallow and cake bar manufacturers – rely on high-speed horizontal or vertical form fill seal (HFFS/VFFS) lines to meet largescale production demands. But even the best packaging machine will fail if the roll stock film is not optimised for speed, consistency, and food safety.

At Jinde Packaging, we have helped numerous snack brands improve line efficiency and reduce waste with BRC, FSSC 22000 and ISO certified automatic roll stock films. Based on our experience, here are six core quality points every buyer should evaluate before sourcing high-speed packaging film.

1. Heat Seal Strength & Low Seal Initiation Temperature (SIT)

High-speed lines run at hundreds of packs per minute. The film must seal instantly at a relatively low temperature to avoid burning the product (e.g., chocolate-coated snacks). Consistent seal strength ensures no leakers or weak seals.

2. Coefficient of Friction (COF)

COF controls how the film slides over machine parts and forming collars. Too high → film jams and wrinkles. Too low → film slips, causing poor registration. A stable COF (typically 0.20.4 for the back side) is critical for uninterrupted runs.

3. Tensile Strength & Elongation

Roll stock film is pulled under tension from the unwinder to the sealing jaws. Insufficient tensile strength leads to web breaks; poor elongation causes tearing around sharp product corners. Both parameters must match your machine’s specifications.

4. Barrier Properties (WVTR & OTR)

Snacks like biscuits, wafers and marshmallows are sensitive to moisture and oxygen. High water vapour transmission rate (WVTR) makes biscuits soggy; high oxygen transmission rate (OTR) causes fat rancidity. Always request barrier data for your specific shelf-life target.

5. Print Registration & Surface Energy

For pre-printed roll stock, accurate print registration (≤±0.5mm) is essential for eye-mark sensors. Low surface energy on the film can cause ink delamination or poor cold-seal adhesion. Corona treatment should be verified.

6. Anti-Static & Anti-Block Properties

Static electricity attracts dust and causes mis-feeding. Anti-block additives prevent adjacent film layers from sticking together, ensuring smooth unwinding – especially important for thin films (<40µm).

Why Jinde Packaging?

We produce highspeed automatic roll stock films with full BRC, FSSC 22000 & ISO 9001/14001 certifications – directly applicable for biscuit, wafer, cake bar and marshmallow snack lines. Our technical team customises film structures (EVOH, metallised, transparent highbarrier) to match your machine’s sealing temperature, tension, and speed.
